Personal canon
Oct. 28th, 2007 02:14 amGod almighty, I suck at posting here...
So - a few notes from my personal canon, Stargate and Smallville:
Stargate personal canon:
1: Jack O'Neill was promoted. Sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. But always by CO's who realized that whatever conflict the US was in needed more good officers, and Jack O'Neill was - despite his insubordination and annoying tendency to do what he felt was right, rather than his orders - an outstanding leader of men.
2: Jack was always proud of his rank, but he never went after the promotion. He did his job to the very best of his ability and kept feeding the inter-personal connections he had to - but he never, ever angled for a promotion. As far as Earth was concerned, this was a very good thing, because if he hadn't, then he'd have been retired from a desk-job before West even took over the Stargate Program. As far as Jack was concerned, it was a good thing too, despite it costing Charlie his life - because if he hadn't, then Jack would have slowly, quietly gone mad, and it would have all ended at the muzzle of a gun.
3: Moving to Washington had been good for Jack - and bad for him. Away from the Stargate and the SGC, he stopped exercising so much. With the threat of going through the gate on a rescue-mission at a moments notice gone, he relaxed. And ate another cookie, another cup of jello. Of course, it didn't help that Washington offered far better food than the SGC.
When Daniel commented on his expanding waist-line, he did it something like this: "You're getting a little chubby in your old age, Jack... I like the new, softer look."
So Jack never bothered getting back into shape.
Smallville personal canon:
1: Lex has been known to give away golden Rolexes. He always gives them away to people he doesn't like. Mostly, to people who thinks that Rolex is a fashionable brand, rather than the mundane, cheap watch it is to Lex. Diminished by it's popularity.
The day Clark turned 18, Lex gave him a watch. Not a golden Rolex (although the thought had crossed his mind, more than once, when the lies became almost unbearable), but a Patek Philippe. With a little bit of luck, Jonathan Kent wouldn't know the brand, and Martha wouldn't tell him - and so Clark would be allowed to keep a watch that cost more than their farm.
Lex knew it was cruel, in a way - but he wanted Clark to have something lasting. Something like the Alexander-watch his mother had given him. It was hand-made and especially ordered. Using only the strongest materials, it still did what Patek Philippe always did. Looked elegant and refined. Just what Lex wanted.
... anyway, that's just how I feel about it. What do you think?
