So my aunt is currently trying to 'sell' me on a kitten - probably from someone she works with. I think, primarily, because she's completely appalled that I'm willing to pay a thousand dollars for a cat!
But you know what? I think it's a beautiful breed (Siberian cats), it's big and semi-longhair, which is a big plus for me, 'cause I've met Maine Coons and I love them (but like the look of the Siberian more - I love their ear-hair, and, yes, I'm aware that that's weird...). I like that I have confidence in the breeder that they'll socialize their kittens before I even get them. I like that they'll have the kittens spayed or neutered before I get them, and that they'll have had their vaccinations and all the visits to the vets they should need for the next year. And I like that I can be reasonably sure (because these are serious and experienced breeders) that I get a really, genetically healthy, kitten.
So right now I'm fighting my aunt and my own conditioning to bend to her will (because, really, that can be easier than to weather all the talking, talking, talking, she can do), because goddamnit! It's my money, it's going to be my cat, and I fully expect to have this pet for the next 10 or 15 or, on the outside, 20+ years, and that's worth paying for in my book!
